CMQ 2025

The XVII International Scientific Conference of the College of Management and Quality Sciences of Krakow University of Economics, CMQ 2025, entitled “Knowledge–Economy–Society”, was held on 9–11 June 2025.

Given the scale of the event, the outstanding keynote speakers, distinguished guests and experts, as well as the numerous active and highly engaged participants, the conference constituted one of the key highlights of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Krakow University of Economics. Honorary patronage over the conference was assumed by Rector dr hab. Bernard Ziębicki, Professor of KUE, and Dr Diana Lawson, Dean of Seidman College of Business.

The conference provided a platform for in-depth and stimulating discussion on the evolution of management and quality theory and practice.

CMQ 2025 in Numbers

The conference brought together 198 participants representing 58 academic institutions, including universities and research centres. Among them were 35 representatives of foreign universities from 20 countries, including the USA, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Thailand, and Malaysia.

The program comprised 2 plenary sessions, 15 scientific sessions and workshops, and 13 expert panels featuring 43 experts and practitioners representing business, public administration, and public benefit organizations. The expert panels, held in an online format, attracted over 800 participants.

During CMQ 2025, attendees had the opportunity to listen to 129 presentations, speeches, and reviews, including 75 scientific papers.

Keynote Speakers

It was a great honour to host eminent figures from the world of academia. The speakers included honorary doctors of Krakow University of Economics: Prof. Philip Kotler and Prof. dr hab. Andrzej K. Koźmiński, as well as Prof. dr hab. Agnieszka Zakrzewska-Bielawska, Prof. Jaideep Motwani, and Prof. dr hab. Tomasz Domański.

A strong representation of business practice was provided by Grzegorz Błażewicz, Adam Leszkiewicz, Magdalena Tokarczyk-Cyran, and Ewa Wachowicz.

Key Outcomes of CMQ 2025

From the perspective of its significance for management and quality sciences, the key outcomes of the conference include:

1) Integration of the academic community and the establishment of new relationships: the conference enabled scholars from 58 academic institutions worldwide to confront research approaches, compare areas of interest, and establish lasting professional contacts.

2) Presentations by mentors, masters, and leading scholars made it possible to diagnose the current state of development of management sciences, which has already been reflected in numerous publications, including five monographs and many articles in scientific journals.

3) The business plenary session and 13 expert panels offered valuable insights into management and quality issues from the perspectives of business practice, public administration, and public benefit organizations.

Expert Panels

Expert panels are a distinctive and integral component of the CMQ conference series. A hallmark of CMQ 2025 was the broad thematic scope of the panels and the introduction of English-language panels for the first time.

Conference Report – CMQ 2025

CMQ 2025 commenced at 1:15 p.m. on 9 June 2025 at the campus of Krakow University of Economics with an address by Rector dr hab. Bernard Ziębicki, Professor of KUE, who welcomed the guests and formally opened the conference. This was followed by an address by dr hab. Marek Jabłoński, Professor of KUE, Dean of the College of Management and Quality Sciences, who introduced the thematic scope of the conference. Subsequently, Dr Diana Lawson, Dean of Seidman College of Business, Grand Valley State University (USA), representing the co-organizing institution, addressed the audience. After the speeches by university and college authorities, dr hab. Paweł Chlipała, Professor of KUE, Chair of the CMQ 2025 Organizing Committee, welcomed the keynote speakers, presenters, and guests, outlining the framework of the conference.

The conference then proceeded with the first plenary session entitled “Mentors on the Evolution of Contemporary Organization Management”, featuring eminent scholars in management and quality sciences: Prof. Philip Kotler (Northwestern University, Honorary Doctor of KUE), Prof. dr hab. Andrzej K. Koźmiński (Kozminski University, Honorary Doctor of KUE), Prof. dr hab. Agnieszka Zakrzewska-Bielawska (Łódź University of Technology), Prof. Jaideep Motwani (Grand Valley State University), and Prof. dr hab. Tomasz Domański (University of Łódź).

The second plenary session, entitled “Management Personalities on Building Competitive Advantage in Conditions of Change”, took the form of an inspiring discussion with prominent business leaders: Grzegorz Błażewicz (co-founder and board member of SALESmanago, entrepreneur, advisor, and investor), Adam Leszkiewicz (CEO of the Polish Armaments Group), Magdalena Tokarczyk-Cyran (CEO of KFA Armatura), and Ewa Wachowicz (television personality, journalist, and owner of the Zalipianki restaurant).

On the second day of the conference, 13 scientific sessions and workshops for early-career researchers were held. The leading session, entitled “Mentors on the Evolution of Managing Contemporary Organizations”, was moderated by Prof. dr hab. Jan W. Wiktor and featured Prof. dr hab. Roman Niestrój, Prof. dr hab. Bogdan Nogalski, and Prof. dr hab. Maria Romanowska. The thematic sessions addressed, among others, the evolution and identity of management and quality sciences, interdisciplinarity, human and social capital management, economic digitalization, new business trends, sustainable development and consumption, technologies and innovations, as well as artificial intelligence in the management of people, finance, and marketing. Notably, two sessions were dedicated to research conducted by young scholars from several countries worldwide.

The third day of the conference was devoted to online sessions with representatives of the business community, including expert panels covering a wide range of topics such as sport, theatre, contemporary marketing, neurodiversity, entrepreneurship in a VUCA world, artificial intelligence, knowledge management, local government finance, marketing communication, and supply chains. The conference concluded with the session entitled “Transatlantic Exchange of Scientific Knowledge and Experience. Modern Management Studies”, chaired by Dr Diana R. Lawson, Dean of Seidman College of Business, Grand Valley State University (USA), and dr hab. Marek Jabłoński, Professor of KUE, Dean of the College of Management and Quality Sciences, featuring academic staff from both institutions.
